| New York City Ballet

In a class on Interactive Media, I was given the assignment of creating a video advertisement using animations through After Effects. I chose to play with adding typography to a video from New York City Ballet, advertising their show, “In the Countenance of Kings.” I chose this video because I was intrigued by posters I had researched, which combined ballet with geometric shapes and lines. I wanted to experiment with animating these lines on top of a ballerina in motion. The video begins simply with these geometric lines on a black background, which fades into the dancers. The black screens in between provide information, but also a resting place for the eye, before snapping back to quick movements, creating a feeling of excitement and urgency. I also played with different effects for typography, such as revealing type as an object moves across it and placing typography behind moving dancers which created more depth and draws the viewer’s eye to different parts of the composition.
